Car loans customers 'likely to consider diesel'

Motorists looking for used car loans are increasingly likely to opt for a diesel vehicle, according to a new study.

The survey, conducted by Experian, found that increases in tax have prompted buyers in the used car market to shift towards more economical diesel cars, according to Motor Trader.

It was revealed that while concerns over climate change had failed to damage sales in the high performance sector, sales of diesel-powered cars had increased by 5.9 per cent during the second quarter of 2007.

Managing director of Experian's automotive division, Kirk Fletcher, said the survey suggested that although the environment was now high on the consumer agenda there were other economical reasons why car finance customers may consider diesel.

"The impact of environmental concerns on buying habits is small and the used car sales statistics suggest that the tax-efficiency of vehicles is currently the biggest reason to buy," he said.
